JACKIE THRASHER BIO

Jackie Thrasher is the band and orchestra director at Lookout Mountain Elementary School in Phoenix, teaching in the Washington School District for 30 years. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Arizona State University and is a former Arizona State Representative.

Jackie’s awards include the 2009 Yale Distinguished Music Educator, Yale University; the 2008 Arts Heroes Award, Arizona Action for the Arts; 2008 Friend of Education Award, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International; 2007 Legislative Partner Award, Arizona Business and Education Coalition; and 2001 Lamp of Learning Award, Washington Elementary School District.

John Siceloff and Jason Maloney also featured her in Your America, Democracy’s Local Heroes. These inspiring stories include Mrs. Thrasher’s journey from teacher to legislator. Jackie serves on the board of Ear Candy Charity, Arizona Citizens Action for the Arts and the Arizona State Board on Geographic and Historic Names.

Jackie and her husband John are the proud parents of two grown children, Jessica and Jason.
