FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rep. Thrasher Honored by Arizona Action for the Arts

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Rep. Jackie Thrasher of Phoenix was recently honored by Arizona Action for the Arts for her commitment to arts organizations and arts education efforts.

Rep. Thrasher received the “2008 Arts Hero” award during the 2008 “Big Read AZ” statewide kickoff in Phoenix on Saturday, Sept. 13.

“I really appreciate that Arizona Action for the Arts recognized my hard work. As a teacher, I know how important it is that we introduce our children to a wide variety of subjects, lessons, and skills,” Rep. Thrasher said. “This is an important honor.”

"During a very difficult legislative session when there were no easy decisions, we are very grateful for the support of these Arts Heroes," said Brenda Sperduti, executive director of Arizona Citizens for the Arts and Arizona Action for the Arts. "The result of their support is very clear, and all you need to do to get real clarity is ask the thousands of Arizona students, individuals and families who benefit from arts organizations and arts education programs.”

Rep. Thrasher also serves as a member of the Arizona Citizens/Action for the Arts board.

"Ms. Thrasher's perspective as an accomplished arts educator helps articulate and demonstrate the value of the arts to our children's education for other elected officials," Sperduti said.
